Performance Lab

Lab Data Notice

The Executive Emotional Intelligence & Performance Lab is a 30-day programme for leaders. This notice explains what we do with your data while you take part, beyond running the programme itself, so you can decide whether to let us use it.

About this notice

The Executive Emotional Intelligence & Performance Lab is a 30-day, data-driven programme for founders, senior leaders and executives. You wear a Garmin device, use the app, and join weekly live sessions where the IN TRUTH team interprets your data with you. You leave with a personal emotional regulation roadmap.

It is an educational and experiential programme, not a research study. Running it needs your data: the IN TRUTH team reads your wearable and journal-based measures with you in the sessions to give you personal insight. That is part of the programme and is covered by our Privacy Policy. We do not publish your data or findings from it as research. IN TRUTH’s research studies are described separately in the Research Use Notice and have their own consent.

This notice covers two things that go beyond running the programme, which we ask you about separately, in the app, by email or in a short survey we send you: using your identifiable lab data, including your calendar, to improve IN TRUTH, and letting the team leading your sessions see your calendar.

Letting us use your data this way is optional. You can take part in the whole programme without agreeing to any of them, and nothing about your sessions, your roadmap or your app experience changes if you decline.

This notice adds to our Privacy Policy, which continues to apply to everything you do in the app.

If anything here is unclear, email research@intruth.io before you agree.

02

Who we are

IN TRUTH is a wholly owned subsidiary of Love Out Loud, PBC, 1616 16th Street, Suite 350, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA. Love Out Loud, PBC is the data controller for the information you provide.

03

How you choose

When your lab starts, we ask you about two choices, in the app, by email or in a short survey we send you. Nothing is agreed unless you say so, and you can continue without agreeing to either.

Use my lab data to improve IN TRUTH

Consent

This is a consent. If you agree, the IN TRUTH product team may use your identifiable data from your lab, including your calendar, to improve IN TRUTH as described in this notice. Calendar data is used only as described in “Your calendar”. It covers only the lab you agree to it for. If you join a later lab, you will be asked again.

Share my calendar with the team leading my sessions

Separate consent

This is a separate consent. If you agree, the IN TRUTH team leading your sessions may see the titles and times of events in your main Google Calendar during your lab period, so they can talk through with you what happened around your practices and other events. Without it, they never see your calendar. Section 14 of our Privacy Policy allows this only because you expressly agree.

Whether you answer in the app, by replying to an email from the IN TRUTH team or in the survey, we record your reply in the same way, and they all count equally.

You can change any of these choices at any time by emailing research@intruth.io.

What the lab involves

Over 30 days you wear the Garmin device, journal in the app, and try practices for regulating your nervous system, some in the weekly sessions and some on your own. The IN TRUTH team reads your biometric and emotional data with you in the sessions and helps you turn it into practical actions and, at the end, your roadmap. That is the programme, and it happens whether or not you agree to anything.

If you agree to the lab option, we also use your data from the lab to see how the app’s measures and features behave while someone follows a programme like this: how the measures respond to the practices you try, how journaling and daily activities relate to them over several weeks, and what we should build or change as a result. What we learn stays inside IN TRUTH and goes into the product. It is not a clinical trial and does not test a treatment.

05

What we use

Nothing beyond what the lab already asks of you. We use:

  • Wearable measurements — heart rate, heart rate variability, sleep and activity — from one week before your lab’s first session until its final session, collected through your device provider’s official connection
  • Journal entries you choose to write during that period, and the emotions the app identifies in them
  • Events from your main Google Calendar during that period, including the practices you log, used only as described in “Your calendar”
  • The timing of group sessions and shared practices in your lab, so we can look at what happens around them

We may also ask you, during sessions, to tell us about practices you tried on your own. Anything you share that way is treated as lab data under this notice.

06

Your calendar

The lab asks you to connect Google Calendar in the app and to record each practice you try — a breathing exercise, a meditation, a walk — as an event in your main Google calendar, with a short title saying what it was. The app reads only your main calendar, so practices logged in any other calendar will not be seen. Group sessions and shared practices are entered as events too.

What we store

Exactly what section 14 of our Privacy Policy describes:

  • Each event’s title, start and end time, whether it is all-day or recurring, its type, and how many people are invited
  • We never request event descriptions, locations, attendee names or emails, or attachments from Google
  • We skip birthdays and working-location entries, and we remove events you cancel or decline
  • We keep events from the past 30 days through the end of tomorrow, and delete them once they fall outside that period

How we use it in the lab

Calendar data is used only to provide and improve the app’s calendar insights — the feature that shows how your measures change around your events. During the lab, the IN TRUTH product team looks at how the measures move around the practices you log, so that feature gets better at showing you what works for you. That feature is still being built, so you may not see it in the app during your lab. What you get back from your calendar during the lab is described below.

By agreeing to the lab option, you agree that the IN TRUTH product team may look at the titles and times of events in your main Google calendar during your lab period for that purpose. That includes events that are not practices, because they are in the same calendar. Because events are deleted 30 days after they happen, we look at them during the lab, not afterwards.

Separately, you can agree to let the team leading your sessions see the titles and times of events in your main Google calendar during your lab period, so they can talk through with you what happened around your practices and your other events. This is its own choice. If you do not make it, they never see your calendar.

Your calendar data is never

  • Shown to other participants, or to anyone outside the systems that host the app
  • Shown to the team leading your sessions, unless you separately agree to that
  • Sent to any AI model, including the journal labeller
  • Used to develop, improve or train AI or machine learning models, including our own
  • Used for advertising, or sold

Titles can contain personal information, so keep anything you would rather we did not see in a calendar other than your main one. You can disconnect at any time in Settings > Calendar. We then delete your stored events and connection details and ask Google to remove our access.

07

What you get back

Your weekly sessions and your roadmap are part of the programme and do not depend on this notice. At the end of your lab we may also share grouped results with the whole group — for example, how the group’s scores or journal emotions shifted across the 30 days. These never identify anyone, and we never show one participant’s journal text, calendar or individual data to another, unless that participant chooses to share it themselves in a session.

If you agree to the lab option, at the end of your lab we also share with you, privately, one or two patterns we noticed between your measures and the events in your calendar — for example, which practices were followed by the quickest return to baseline. A person on the IN TRUTH product team writes these from your data; no AI is involved. If you have also agreed to share your calendar with the team leading your sessions, they can talk these through with you in a data unpack session. These are wellness observations, not a clinical assessment.

08

Who can take part

You need to be enrolled in the Performance Lab, have an IN TRUTH account, and be 18 or older. The Garmin device is part of the programme.

Who sees it

The IN TRUTH product teamYour lab data as described in this notice, including the titles and times of events in your main Google Calendar during your lab period, for the purpose set out in “Your calendar”.
The IN TRUTH team leading your sessionsThe scores and trends in your dashboard, which they interpret with you in the weekly sessions as part of the programme, under the Data Sharing & Visibility Consent Agreement you accept when you join your lab’s team in the app. Never your journal text. Your calendar only if you separately agree to share it with them.
Other participants in your labGrouped results only — never your individual data, and never your journal text.
Our technology providersData stored on their systems under contract, not used for their own purposes.
The publicNothing identifiable. We do not publish lab data or findings from it as research.

The IN TRUTH team looks at your dashboard with you during sessions. That is the same view you have, and it does not include your journal text. It includes your calendar only if you have agreed to share it with them.

10

How we use AI

When you write a journal entry, the app uses an AI language model to identify the emotions in it. That model runs inside IN TRUTH’s own cloud environment in Amazon Web Services. Your text is not sent to the model’s developer and is not used to train it. This happens for every journal entry, whether or not you take part in the lab; it is part of how the app works.

We do not use your identifiable lab data to train AI or machine learning models.

Calendar data is never sent to any AI model, for any purpose.

11

How we look after it

We use your lab data only to improve IN TRUTH as described in this notice. It is stored in a secure database in Amazon Web Services, encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to the lab dataset is limited to the IN TRUTH product team. The team leading your sessions sees only what is listed in “Who sees it”.

We do not

  • Sell your data
  • Use it for advertising or marketing
  • Publish it, or findings from it, as research
  • Share it with your employer, your insurer, or anyone else in your life
  • Use it to make any decision that affects you individually

Legal basis

We rely on your explicit consent to use health-related information to improve the product. You can withdraw that consent at any time, which stops any further use.

How long we keep it

Lab data is kept under the retention terms in our Privacy Policy. Calendar events are deleted 30 days after they happen regardless, and are deleted immediately if you disconnect your calendar.

Where your data goes

Participants take part from many countries. Your data is transferred to and stored in our secure databases in Amazon Web Services.

12

Risks and benefits

Risks are low, but real. Reflecting on your mood and stress can bring up difficult feelings. There is always some residual risk when personal data is stored, though we take the precautions described above. Journal entries and calendar titles can reveal more about your life than the lab needs, so share only what you are comfortable with.

The benefit is the programme itself: your sessions, your roadmap and whatever you take from them. Letting us use your data does not change what you see in the app. Nothing we share with you in the sessions or at the end of the lab is a clinical interpretation.

We cannot give you medical advice. IN TRUTH is not a medical device. Nothing in the app or in the lab diagnoses, treats, or monitors any health condition. If you have concerns about your mental or physical health, please speak to a doctor or a qualified professional. If you need support urgently, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line in your country — findahelpline.com lists services worldwide.

13

Your rights and how to stop

You can:

  • Decline and still take part in the lab and use the app normally
  • Stop at any point, for any reason, without telling us why
  • Disconnect your wearable or your calendar at any time

To withdraw, or to have your lab data deleted: email research@intruth.io. We will delete the data you have provided, except for anything already included in an analysis that cannot be separated out. We will tell you if that applies. Withdrawing does not affect your place in the programme.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to:

  • Ask what data we hold about you and get a copy
  • Correct information that is wrong
  • Ask us to delete your data
  • Object to or restrict how we use it
  • Withdraw your consent at any time
  • Complain to your national data protection authority
